June 24th 2010 - Andrew Thomas Wine Dinner: $95 per head 

Despite being weaned on thefull-throttle Shiraz of McLaren Vale, Andrew (Thommo) Thomas developed a deeppassion for the more refined wines of the Hunter Valley.During his formative winemaking years at Tyrrell's Vineyards, under the carefulguidance of the great Murray Tyrrell, he gained a respect for and understandingof the two great varieties that the HunterValley produces, semillonand shiraz. In 1997 Thomas Wines was born. In the pursuit of excellence, AndrewThomas set out to specialise in semillon and shiraz, sourcing premium quality grapes fromarguably some of the Valley's most distinguished sites. 

 

FIFA World Cup June to July 2010

The Albion Hotel featured the 2010 FIFA World Cup during June - July 2010.  The Hotel showed all Socceroos games LIVE on our 9 Foot Mega Screen.  During the tournament, hundreds enjoyed the World Cup Action from Stadium Albion, our very own internal Grand Stand.

Winemaker Profile: Tony Ingle

Tony wasborn in Englandin 1963 and initially pursued a career in finance, studying Economics at London University.A career in merchant banking ensued, mostly dealing with Latin American debt. A trip to Californiaand Australiain 1990 kindled a passion for wine which led to a sea-change, and work in the UK wine retailenvironment in both boutique and warehouse outlets.  hrough contacts madein the UKretail trade, Tony participated in his first vintage in England withthe Chapel Down winery in East Sussex near Gatwick Airport - a very cool climate winemakingexperience.

The nextfew years saw Tony traveling between France and Australia,working in Bordeaux,The Loire, and the Langue d'Oc as well as Australian Icon wineries such asChateau Tahbilk and Hardy's Tintara.  In 2003 after completing a graduateDiploma in Oenology and completing 14 vintages around the world, Tony moved toAngove Family Winemakers - a long way from his banking career in 1990.

Tony was deeply involved in the decision to manage Angove FamilyWinemakers McLaren Vale "Medhyk" vineyard using biodynamicprinciples, and the commitment to converting Nanya vineyard to Organic status. ony has been instrumental in developing and defining the new premiumbrands Angove Family Winemakers have brought to market such as Nine Vines, RedBelly Black, and Vineyard Select; each of which are gaining ever more successat wine shows and with critics worldwide, and more importantly with consumersat home and overseas.
